TRAIN YOUR MIND
October 16. Matthew ch 4-6
TRAIN YOUR MIND.
For the ear tests words as the tongue tastes food. Let us discern for ourselves what is right; let us learn together what is good.
Job 34:3-4 NIV
GOOD DAY: One Yoruba adage says "if the ear does not hear foul, the heart will not be sad." The ear is the road to the mind and the mind plays an important role in the way we feel and the issues of our lives. If you want your life situation to change for good, if you want stability in an unstable world, then you need to train your mind starting from noticing what you hear does to your mind. Jesus taught us that we must watch what we hear and how we hear. Most of us don’t pay attention to our emotions when we hear things. Because we don’t pay attention to how our minds react to what we hear, we keep listening and sometimes even calling it sweet gossip but it is distasteful to our mind.
When your mouth tastes food that your stomach does not like, you quickly leave the food and you never move near it again. My grandson has a slogan he says once he notices that any food contains what he does not eat. He tells himself and whoever offers him “I’m not allowed”. Sometimes when you tell him what his mind does not welcome, he tells you to stop the discussion no matter who you are. You don’t have to hear every news. See what the news does to your mind and never listen to it again to keep your mind at peace and your life in order.
I stop anyone who wants to share what is distasteful to my ears and mind with me. Begin to learn to train your mind. The standard to measure what you hear by is in Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8 NASB1995
Things that enhance these virtues are things you should hear and take into your mind so that you will have peace and other good things that you desire will be added to you.
The exercise for today is to write down whatever you feel after you hear any news or gist. When you feel bad, note what you heard which you remember that triggers it. Tomorrow, we will see who our biggest and major gist partner is that you need to caution.
PRAY: Dear Lord, teach me and help me to train my mind.
