PURSUIT OF FREEDOM

August 25.            Jeremiah ch 37-39

UNDERSTANDING THE PURSUIT OF FREEDOM

And they will listen to your voice, and you and the elders of Israel shall go to the king of Egypt and say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us; and now, please let us go a three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.’ Exodus 3:18 ESV

GOOD DAY. People go into slavery for different reasons but the first insight into the pursuit of freedom is when the slave becomes restless as exposed by Issac to Esau.

By your sword you shall live, and you shall serve your brother; but when you grow restless you shall break his yoke from your neck.” Genesis 27:40 Isaac was the first person that had the yoke of slavery to his brother Jacob placed on him by their father. You can read the whole story again. The children of Israel became slaves in Egypt as part of God's promise to Abraham their forefather. At the fullness of time, the Israelites became restless from the yoke of the Egyptians and they cried to the Lord who then made a plan for freedom for them. The plan was to take them to a land flowing with milk and honey promised to Abraham but it was to be a journey through the wilderness. Every slave master should know that a time will come when the slave will become restless. When restlessness matures, your captive will seek freedom. A wilderness is an abandoned land grown with weeds and thorns, it is also a place of disfavor. No one loves the wilderness but in your fight for freedom, you will go through one. This is the reason why the destination that your freedom will take you has to be clearly defined and attractive enough to be worth all the wilderness experience. You may not know the wilderness you will pass through but you should know your destination. Your destination may be a real place or virtual state like peace, joy, love, performance or whatever. The wilderness never fully unfolds before you take off but at every turn, God will give you the strength to go through.he passage following tells the story.

You brought us into the net; you laid a crushing burden on our backs; you let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance. Psalm 66:11‭-‬12 ESV. The road to the place of abundance is laden with the pain of the wilderness but if you know how to connect with God, you will pass through without losses. Tomorrow, we will discuss how to navigate the wilderness and overcome the pain without going back to slavery.

PRAY: Dear Lord, the world is seeking freedom without consulting with You. Let there be a revival that will make the world return to you. That is real freedom.
