HYMN IN THE HOUR OF TRIAL
April 12. . Ezra ch 2-5
HYMN IN THE HOUR OF TRIAL
1 In the hour of trial,
Jesus, plead for me,
Lest by base denial
I depart from Thee.
When Thou seest me waver,
with a look recall,
Nor for fear or favor
suffer me to fall.
2 With forbidden pleasures
would this vain world charm,
Or its sordid treasures
spread to work me harm,
Bring to my remembrance
sad Gethsemane,
Or, in darker semblance,
cross-crowned Calvary.
3 Should Thy mercy send me
sorrow, toil and woe,
Or should pain attend me
on my path below,
Grant that I may never
fail Thy hand to see;
Grant that I may ever
cast my care on Thee.
4 When my last hour cometh
fraught with strife and pain,
When my dust returneth
to the dust again,
On Thy truth relying,
through that mortal strife,
Jesus, take me, dying,
to eternal life.
5 If with sore affliction
thou in love chastise,
pour thy benediction
on the sacrifice:
then upon thine altar
freely offered up,
though the faith may falter,
faith shall drink the cup.
6 When in dust and ashes
to the grave I sink,
while heaven's glory flashes
o'er the shelving brink,
on thy truth relying,
through that mortal strife,
Lord, receive me, dying,
to eternal life.
GOOD DAY: Hymns of old are good prayers and meditation aids. There are moments of trial when you are pressed to do what is contrary to what the Lord ministers to your spirit. It is not necessarily anything sinful or contradictory to the written word but you know that you know that God has instructed you otherwise. This is more so when you are feeling cheated or taken for granted and God says to your heart be still and be patient. At times like this, this hymn comes in handy as prayer. Sing it if you know the tune or read meditatively or listen to it on YouTube.
PRAY: Dear Lord, grant that I will see you in the hour of trial and pray for me.
