RESOLVING UNCERTAINTIES
February 21. Joshua ch 18-21
MANAGING UNCERTAINTIES.
“And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two You have chosen to occupy this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles.”
Acts 1:24-26 NASB1995
GOOD MORNING. There are not many real life experiences of people relating with God recorded in the New Testament after the assumption of Jesus like it was in the Old Testament. The apostles however had to deal with one incident of getting things right just after the assumption of Jesus. They prayed and drew lots as is recorded in the account in Acts 1. You can read the whole story in the bible. This method I have found very useful if you really mean it with your whole heart and are ready to abide by the outcome.
God spoke to the New Testament saints in dreams and visions as well. He spoke to Peter in vision to avoid uncertainty about going to Cornelius' house.
“But he became hungry and was desiring to eat; but while they were making preparations, he fell into a trance; and he saw the sky opened up, and an object like a great sheet coming down, lowered by four corners to the ground, and there were in it all kinds of four-footed animals and crawling creatures of the earth and birds of the air. A voice came to him, “Get up, Peter, kill and eat!” But Peter said, “By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything unholy and unclean.” Again a voice came to him a second time, “What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy.” And he said to them, “You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a man who is a Jew to associate with a foreigner or to visit him; and yet God has shown me that I should not call any man unholy or unclean.” Acts 10:10-15, 28 NASB1995
It was easy for Peter to follow Cornelius’ men because God had spoken to him. Paul too had a vision about going to Macedonia. “A vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.””Acts 16:9 NASB1995. All these still happen today.
If a person believes that God exists and He talks and gives direction to men now, no matter the decision he wants to make, he can use any of these means to receive instructions from God. When you want to decide over career, life partner, health matters, investment and anything whatsoever, you should get God involved by asking Him for directions in the language that you understand. When you ask however, be prepared to obey whatever instructions He gives whether you like it or not.
God also gives direction through an understanding of scriptures. For things that can be inferred from scriptures, the Holy Spirit sheds a light on appropriate scripture. The summary of all however is the peace of God that passes all understanding which He gives when you are in agreement with Him.
PRAY: Lord, help me to trust You enough to seek Your guidance in all I want to do.
