REALITY OF LIFE

January 21.     Exodus ch 31-34

REALITY TALK

““Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’ Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’ Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’”‭

‭Matthew‬ ‭25‬:‭41‬-‭45‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

GOOD DAY. The reality that Jesus expressed here is that there will be the poor, the sick, the hungry, those in prison etc here on earth. Yet He identifies with them. He sees Himself in them. He also cautioned those who were complaining about the woman who poured expensive perfume on Him by saying;

“For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me.”’‭     ‭Mark‬ ‭14‬:‭7‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Jesus as flesh will not always be with man but the poor will always be and we can do good to them anytime we wish. This is a reality talk that no one likes but Jesus knew that this would be the case. Why will there be some people who are poor, sick, in prison, homeless etc around us? First, no matter how much you tell some people, they cannot and will not believe that their condition can be better. Secondly, they are testers of how we will treat Jesus.

What good news is there for the poor and infirmed then?

The first good news is that Jesus knows and identifies with your condition no matter how bad it is.

  1. Jesus holds those who are privileged accountable for watching after the well being of the less privileged. If they don’t, they will answer to Jesus on the day of judgment.

  2. Jesus promised all those who believe in Him the same spiritual gifts that are permanent. They are ETERNAL LIFE ; PEACE; and JOY.

Riches and all the visible things of this world do disappear so they are not worth depending on but whoever has these three spiritual gifts has everything. Jesus counsels where to lay up treasures and says what happens to treasures stored here on earth;

““Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭19‬-‭21‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

So whatever position you are, the reality is, be mindful of the less privileged and treat them as temples of Jesus as well. Never look down on anybody but see Jesus in them and do to and for them as you would for Jesus.

PRAY: Lord Jesus, make me humble and discerning enough to recognise you in the less privileged.
