GO FORWARD
“Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14 NASB1995
GOOD DAY. It takes the heart of God Himself for anyone to forget the past. Past events have a way of coming back and directing our feelings and response to the NOW. For example, I said a simple prayer for a girl who was so nice to me and she started sobbing and crying seriously. I wondered why and I became worried. She said “don’t worry anti. It’s just me. It has nothing to do with you’. I pressed on to know the reason she was sad with my prayer so I can watch what and how I say things to people in future. Then she said that the short prayer touched the way she has changed to be with men. Three men she dated before had been so wicked to her and took advantage of her generosity. This fourth one she agreed to date after some time is so nice, caring, helping, giving in spite of the fact that she is richer but she is so kind and unyielding in his living attitudes in spite of her meanness. Now that I prayed, it knocked the nail on the head of what she had been feeling in her spirit that she should forget the past and move forward in this relationship as it is.
Like the apostle Paul, we have to decisively deal with our past otherwise we cannot move forward to reach the goal of God for us. The past is gone. You can only visit it in your memory and imagination then you project it to the future so that you meet it again. I try not to get fixated on my past. I remember it, laugh about it and move on. You cannot erase it but you can deal with it briefly and move on in your thoughts. Unless you learn to deal with the past, you cannot move forward to new and greater experiences.
PRAY. Dear Lord, I ask that You heal my past and help me to move on as a healed new person.
